Counterfeit Products Identified on Amazon
In Q1 2024, counterfeit sellers began listing under MacuHealth’s ASINs, falsely claiming to sell authentic product shipped from China.
Brand Reputation at Risk from Counterfeits
These sellers used FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant), offering prices 80% lower than retail ($10-$20), which risked damaging both customer trust and brand reputation.
Step 1: Test Purchases and Proof
We conducted test buys to confirm the products were counterfeit. While shipping times were long, the bigger challenge was Amazon’s slow response to removing the violators.
Step 2: Brand Registry Enforcement
We filed violation reports through Brand Registry. Despite submitting evidence repeatedly, Amazon support provided little resolution, creating a frustrating cycle of cases, emails, and back-and-forth responses.
Step 3: Amazon Transparency Program
After persistent efforts, we secured enrollment in Amazon’s Transparency program. This added layer of protection finally enabled us to block counterfeit sellers and secure MacuHealth’s listings in time for the critical Q4 2024 season.
Following three months of decline, removing counterfeiters led to a strong recovery, with sales rising +16%, +15%, and +7% over the next three months.
