Click Through Rate (CTR)
Click through rate (CTR) measures the percentage of users who click on your product listing after seeing it from the search results page. It plays a crucial role in driving traffic to your listing, which in turn can help generate more sales.
CTR is more than a vanity metric. A higher click through rate means more shoppers choose your product over competing listings, creating more opportunities to generate sales.

Improved Amazon main image examples
A good main image is visually appealing, showcases the product clearly, and presents its features and benefits. Here are our favorite main image improvements, along with the changes that helped make an impact.
HappyMe Journal
The HappyMe Journal main image was just a standard product shot on a white background.. To make it more informative, we showcased the inside pages, highlighted the intended age range, and added a short product description to the cover.
BBQ Caddy
The BBQ Caddy had a main image that was too similar to the main image of competing products. The solution was to include the product packaging in the image, and make sure that the product’s name and branding was easily readable.
Lavender Room Fragrance
The original Lavender Room Fragrance Spray main image was a typical product shot of two bottles. We enhanced it by adding the branded packaging, clearly displaying the scent, and including a badge showing the bottle count and estimated number of sprays.
Protein For Her
Protein powder packaging often looks similar across brands. For Protein For Her, we enhanced the main image by adding a badge highlighting a 30-day supply, a scoop of the powder, and a cupcake to clearly communicate the flavor.
Jacket Sunscreen
The main image for this sunscreen brand was improved in three ways. First, a card was added that listed three of its main features. Second, a “Made in the USA” tag was added. And third, a streak of cream was shown to show what the actual cream looked like.
Pure Coconut Water
It was natural for this main image to be improved by adding imagery of coconuts and coconut water. But in addition to that, a simple badge was also placed in to show that the product is for a 12-pack of bottles.
Baggie Organizer
It was difficult to tell what the product was from the original main image. The fix for this was to first add a tag with text of what the product is, then we also placed in imagery of baggies with various food in them to provide context of its usage.
Weighted Stuffed Animal
Communicating scale will always be helpful for shoppers. For this product, a toddler was added in, while also showing who the stuffed animal is meant for. Packaging was placed in the image to display its weight and the description of the product.
Smoke Machine Fluid
Showing what your product does can make a main image much more compelling. For this Smoke Machine Fluid, we added realistic smoke and the branded packaging to showcase its key features. The result is a more eye-catching image.
Microwave Heating Pad
The first main image for this product was too simple, and wouldn’t stand out and grab attention on a page. We included the packaging in the main image, with the product name clearly visible, and a small “Made in USA” hangtag for the better main image.

Why is the main image so important for my Amazon listing?
Your main image is the first thing shoppers see it determines whether they click or scroll past. A high-quality, eye-catching image can dramatically increase your CTR and overall sales.
Can I include text or badges in my main image?
Yes, but only if they look natural and don’t violate Amazon’s image guidelines. Smartly placed text or badges (like “Made in USA” or “30-Day Supply”) can highlight key product benefits and boost conversions.

How often should I update my main image?
You should review and update your main image every few months or whenever you refresh packaging or branding. Testing new versions can reveal which visuals attract more clicks and conversions.
What are common mistakes sellers make with main images?
Many sellers use plain or overly generic white-background photos that blend in with competitors. Failing to show scale, packaging, or product context often leads to lower click-through rates.
Can professional design services really improve my listing performance?
Absolutely. Professionally optimized main images can increase click-through rates by 20% or more. Our experts know how to balance compliance, branding, and visual appeal to make your product stand out in search results.
