Amazon FBA Export New Destinations: What It Means for Sellers

Steven Pope, CEO & Founder of My Amazon Guy

Amazon FBA Export New Destinations open up a world of opportunity for sellers, allowing them to tap into a wider global market and boost their sales potential.

If you’re an Amazon FBA seller, you’re in luck: Amazon just rolled out 136 new destinations for their FBA Export program. While it’s not quite 136 new countries (as Amazon already covers over 100), it’s likely a substantial increase in regional locations within these countries.

This expansion promises access to a wider global audience, though sellers should manage expectations around the immediate impact on sales. Here’s a closer look at what these new destinations mean for you, the potential benefits, and key considerations for your listings.

Amazon FBA Export Overview

Amazon’s FBA Export program helps U.S.-based sellers reach international customers in 100 countries, with Amazon managing fulfillment, customs, and import duties.

Buyers cover shipping costs, while sellers can exclude specific products or regions. With 136 new destinations added, sellers can now access more customers in existing regions, although local restrictions may apply.

How Amazon FBA Export Works

Amazon FBA Export allows sellers to easily reach international buyers by automatically handling order fulfillment, import duties, and customs clearance. Amazon provides a report of FBA Export-eligible products, picks, packs, and ships these products to international customers, who cover international shipping and custom duties. This seamless process has no additional FBA fees.

FBA Export Enrollment

Most sellers are automatically enrolled in FBA Export. You can verify and manage your enrollment status in the Fulfillment by Amazon settings under “Export Settings.” Here, you can enable or disable FBA Export at any time.

Customizable Export Settings

Sellers can tailor FBA Export settings to their business needs:

  • Exclude Countries

Go to Settings > Fulfillment by Amazon. Under Export Settings, click Edit in the Shipping restrictions section.

Select countries to exclude, then click Save

  • Exclude products from some or all countries

Go to Settings > Fulfillment by Amazon. In Export Settings, click Edit, then Exclude products.
Download and complete the FBA Export exclusion file to designate exclusions (up to 1 million products). You can update this list anytime by adding, editing, or removing items.

Why Should You Consider Exporting?

Exporting, or cross-border e-commerce, is driving global economic growth. In Europe, 73% of online shoppers make international purchases, generating over 171 billion euros last year. The U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Brazil are also seeing e-commerce growth. Global e-commerce revenues are projected to reach $7.391 trillion by 2025, demonstrating the sector’s rapid expansion.

The cross-border e-commerce market is booming, fueled by rising internet access and demand for unique products.

Exporting can be a profitable venture, but it requires navigating complex regulations, logistics, and market strategies. For Amazon sellers looking to enter international markets, consulting with an Amazon agency can provide expert guidance to develop a solid business plan, manage compliance, and optimize listings for global reach.

Amazon FBA Export New Destinations, What Products Are Eligible?

Want to know if your products are eligible for Amazon’s FBA Export program? To find out, you’ll need to access and download the Exportable Inventory reports from Seller Central.

Before enabling FBA Export to new regions, check each product’s eligibility by generating an “Exportable Inventory” report in your Seller Central account.

Go to “Reports” in Seller Central, then navigate to “Fulfillment.”

In the Amazon Fulfillment Reports dashboard, look for “Exportable Inventory” tab in the left panel menu.

You may download the list of your FBA Export-eligible products.

Understand Export Policies

Sellers using the Amazon FBA Export program should be aware of regional export restrictions that may affect their products. Each country has unique regulations, and certain items are often prohibited from international shipping.

For example, U.S. laws restrict the export of military products and similar items for security reasons, while other products, such as weapons (or imitation weapons), plants, animal products, surveillance equipment, and laser devices, often face strict export limitations.

Knowing these policies can help sellers avoid compliance issues and ensure a smooth export process.

Understand Import Regulations

Sellers in the Amazon FBA Export program should also familiarize themselves with import policies in their target countries, as each destination has specific regulations.

While an item may be eligible for export, destination countries often restrict products like alcohol, weapons, chemicals, food and supplements, medical devices, and gambling-related items.

Amazon proactively assesses these restrictions on a country-by-country basis to help prevent customs delays and ensure smooth delivery, but sellers need to understand these import policies to avoid potential issues with international shipments.

Understand Logistics Limitations

Sellers in Amazon’s FBA Export program should be aware of logistics and transportation limitations that impact which items can be shipped internationally. Large or heavy products, like mattresses and beds, along with certain “dangerous goods” (such as lithium batteries and used oils) are typically excluded from FBA Export due to size, weight, or safety concerns.

What Fees Do You Need To Pay?

For FBA Export orders fulfilled directly through Amazon, there are no additional fees for standard-size items shipped internationally. Standard-size units are defined as items weighing 20 lb. or less, with specific dimension limits (no side over 18 inches). Oversize items cannot be exported.

When using Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) to ship internationally, fees depend on the combined shipment weight, including a 10% dunnage factor for packaging.

Refer to the table below based on Amazon FBA Export Fees.

When shipping multiple units in a single Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) order to an international address, Amazon will calculate the weight handling fee based on the combined weight if the units are shipped together. However, if the units are sent in separate shipments, each shipment’s weight is calculated individually for fees.

How Can It Impact Your Sales?

The expanded FBA Export program likely won’t double your sales overnight, but it opens the door for gradual, long-term growth. By reaching new markets, especially if your products have global appeal, you may start seeing a modest uptick in orders from these added regions.

To track your international sales performance:

Go to the Reports tab in Seller Central, select Fulfillment.

Under Sales, choose Amazon Fulfilled Shipments.

Set the date range and download the report in .csv or.txt format. Filter by destination country to view FBA Export-specific orders.

What Happens To Product Returns?

Amazon oversees the fulfillment and return processing for FBA Export orders, using its standard return policies to decide if items are eligible for return.

When a returned item arrives in a resellable condition, it’s restocked in your inventory. If the item is unsellable, Amazon reviews the situation, assigning fault and offering reimbursement as outlined in its lost and damaged inventory policy.

For non-defective items, buyers pay for return shipping. If there’s a product defect, Amazon reimburses the buyer’s return shipping cost after receipt.
