Amazon Dangerous Goods Compliance Changes Start October 26

Starting October 26, 2026, Amazon dangerous goods compliance questions will appear when sellers create or edit listings for refrigerant appliances, shock absorbers, markers, and pool chemicals. Existing listings need no action until their next edit.

Amazon is adding new Amazon dangerous goods compliance questions to the listing process for four product categories, effective October 26, 2026. Sellers of refrigerators, shock absorbers, markers, and pool chemicals will need to answer the questions before a new or edited listing can move forward.

Listings already live in these categories are not affected until a seller makes a change to them. Brands with affected ASINs, including those working with an Amazon agency, may need product documents such as safety data sheets on hand before their next update.

Amazon Dangerous Goods Compliance Questions Cover Four Product Categories

Amazon announced in Seller Central that sellers must answer new compliance questions starting October 26, 2026, when they list a new product or update an existing one in four categories. According to Amazon, the questions will help it identify dangerous goods more accurately, add shipping options, and lower unnecessary disposal costs and fees.

Each category has its own set of Amazon hazmat compliance questions, and Amazon uses the answers for Amazon dangerous goods classification. The table below shows what each set covers.

Category Questions cover
Refrigerators, freezers, and AC units
Refrigerant gas
Shock absorbers and lift supports
Shock-absorbing mechanism
Markers and writing instruments
Ink properties
Pool and spa chemicals
Composition and packaging

Existing listings in these categories need no updates before October 26, 2026, and the questions will appear the next time a seller creates or edits one. As a result, routine Q4 catalog work on affected ASINs, such as title or bullet point changes, will bring up the questions.

Amazon said complete and accurate answers help listings go live without delays. The full list of questions is available on Amazon’s dangerous goods (hazmat) required information and documentation page.

Sellers Advised to Review SDS and Shipping Documents Before the Deadline

Niceggie reported that Amazon published the notice on its seller forum on September 26, 2026. At the time of its report, the outlet said Amazon had not disclosed the specific question fields, the ASINs in scope, or the documents sellers would need to submit.

The outlet noted that the change could extend beyond lithium batteries to aerosols, chemicals, pesticides, magnetic products, and household or automotive goods with hazardous ingredients. Amazon’s notice, however, lists only four categories for the new questions.

Incomplete answers or documentation that does not match could result in ASIN delisting, FBA inbound delays, delivery restrictions, or a new review. Those outcomes are what can happen when sellers answer Amazon’s compliance questions incorrectly.

The outlet recommended that affected sellers complete three steps before October 26, 2026.

  1. Create a review list of affected ASINs and record each one’s dangerous goods status.
  2. Check each ASIN’s SDS, UN38.3 documents, packaging details, and shipping information, and log any missing or inconsistent items in a tracking table.
  3. Compare available documentation against the compliance questions, flag ASINs that cannot be confirmed, and complete one internal review.

Amazon Applies the Same Hazmat Listing Requirements to UK Sellers

The same four categories will face the new questions on Amazon’s UK marketplace from October 26, 2026. Brands selling in both the US and UK stores will see the requirement in both marketplaces.

The outlet detailed the questions by category, from the refrigerant used in appliances to how a shock absorber’s mechanism works. It also confirmed that existing UK listings do not need updating until a seller creates or edits one.

According to Beyond the Basket, Amazon expects the change to open up more delivery methods and reduce disposal costs and fees tied to products that were wrongly flagged as dangerous goods. Incorrect flags have been a common reason sellers see listings marked as hazmat without warning.

The outlet added that listings with incomplete or inaccurate answers may take longer to go live. Sellers who meet the new Amazon hazmat listing requirements before editing can avoid those delays during the Q4 selling season.
