A Guide to Amazon Product Bundling

Methods for Using Amazon Product Bundling

Amazon Product Bundling is an Interactive and Creative Way to Increase Sales and Conversions on Products.

New Physical Product Bundle Method:(Creating a New ASIN for FBA)

Merchant Fulfilled Bundle Method:

  • Create a New Merchant Fulfilled Bundle Listing (As Instructed Above).
  • The difference here is you would not need to have the physical product in stock. This would essentially be a virtual or shell listing. Instead you can fulfill the merchant order using a Multi-Channel Fulfillment Order (MCF).
  • Each SKU which is included in the bundle could be shipped to the customer directly from Amazon using a MCF order.
  • Once you create the new order Amazon will ship the products directly to the customer, and they will receive their bundle.
  • This method is dependent on having adequate FBA inventory in stock. There is no way to designate or sideline products for any reason, so your bundle inventory count would need to be managed closely.
  • Please see the article below for further information on how to create a MCF order. (Though this article mentions eBay it can also apply to a FBM order, etc.)
Cross Promotion Method:

  • You can create a cross promotion on Amazon.
  • Buy 1 of Product X and Get Product Y Free/90% Off/10% Off, etc.
  • Buy 2 of Product X and Received 2 of Product Y 10% Off.
  • While this method is not technically a bundle in the sense of a combined product listing, See below for example of how promotion would look. (It appears towards the bottom of the product detail page).
  • We can create a custom image which outlines the product bundle promotion, and creates an interactive way for customers to be aware of the promotion and encourages them to use it. Thus increasing conversions and sales.  (See example of promotion look and type below)

Promotion Example

Virtual Bundling Program Beta Pilot Program (Invite Only)

  • There is rumor of a Virtual Bundling Program in which Amazon would create the product bundles directly with FBA inventory (without having to create a new listing).
  • This program is beta and invite only at this time.
  • You can attempt to ticket Amazon to get the account enrolled, but we have not seen any of our clients become enrolled into this program to date.
  • This will be something to look out for in the coming months.
Below is Some Information on the Program Directly from Amazon:

Getting started with product bundles

Product bundles are ASINs where 2-5 component ASINs are included, and customers can buy them all from the same detail page as a single ASIN, though the fulfillment and delivery remains separate. This allows customers to conveniently shop and discover a greater selection of complimentary products and products with discounts. Bundles can give brands the ability to provide discounts on a set of complimentary products and utilize existing inventory in Amazon’s fulfillment network to create more choices for customers.

Availability

Product bundles from sellers are presently available only in the US Amazon store.

Requirements

ASINs need to meet the following criteria to be eligible for being added to a product bundle:

  • Only ASINs that are Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) are eligible to be included in product bundles
  • Product bundles can only be created with products that belong to brands that sellers own and have registered in the Amazon Brand Registry
  • Product bundles can be created only in the US Amazon store
  • The following products cannot be included in product bundles: gift cards, electronically delivered products such as digital music, video, and books

Number of ASINs

There can be 2-5 unique products (ASINs) in a bundle. However, for every unique ASIN, there can be more than 1 unit in the bundle.

Examples of eligible and ineligible product bundles:

  • Red pen (2) – This cannot be a bundle because there is only 1 ASIN.
  • Red pen (1) + blue pen (1) – This can be a bundle.
  • Red pen (2) + blue pen (5) – This can be a bundle because there are 2 unique ASINs. Note that the total number of units in the bundle is more than 5, which is acceptable.
  • Red pen (1) + blue pen (1) + green pen (1) + black pen (1) + orange pen (1) + purple pen (1) – This cannot be a bundle because there are 6 unique ASINs, which exceeds the max limit of 5.

Creating product bundles

Product bundles can be created from sellercentral.amazon.com/bundles/create or you can navigate by going to Inventory > Manage Inventory > Create A Bundle.

ASIN availability

Any ASIN that is included in a bundle should also be a standalone ASIN and customers should be able buy them independently.

Pricing

Product bundles can be priced lower than or equal to the sum total of prices of the products in the bundle. One of the value propositions of the program is being able to offer multiple products as a bundle at a discount. The seller is responsible for setting the bundle price and for updating the bundle price if any component pricing changes. If a bundle price becomes higher than the sum of the seller’s component prices, then the bundle will not be purchasable.

Image requirements

We recommend the images be at least 500 x 500 pixels.

Bundle In ASIN title

We recommend adding the word “Bundle” to the title of the bundle ASINs.

Main component in a bundle

A main component can be any ASIN that is a part of the bundle ASIN. However, it is recommended to select the ASIN that is the most integral component part of the bundle as the main component since it will help determine the search and browse categorization of the ASIN. Bundle ASINs will inherit keywords from the existing main component ASINs. For example, a bundle ASIN with a TV and an HDMI cable should have the TV as the main component.

Editing a bundle

The following attributes of a bundle ASIN are editable after the bundle has been saved: title, description, bullet points, price, and images. However, the products that make up the bundle or the SKU cannot be edited once saved.

API/feed integration

Product bundles can be created only in Seller Central. There is no API/feed integration available.

Delivery of bundle ASINs

The products in a bundle may be shipped and delivered separately.

Discoverability

Customers will be able to find bundle ASINs through discover and browse.

Bundle ASINs and Deals

Bundle ASINs will have to meet all regular existing criteria Deals. For more information, refer to Create a Deal.

Reviews and ratings

Bundle ASINs have separate reviews and ratings from those of the component ASINs that make up the bundle.

Fees

Since all the products are fulfilled separately, just as if they were purchased separately, there are no changes to fulfillment fees. All standard selling fees will apply.

Reporting

All reporting is available at the component ASIN(s) level for activity on product bundles.

  • Black Friday or Cyber Monday Week (non-event day): $300 per deal
  • Black Friday or Cyber Monday event day: $500 per deal
You will see the fee for your Deal(s) in the Seller Central Deals Dashboard after your Deal has been scheduled. By submitting a Lightning Deal for Black Friday Week or Cyber Monday Week, you are agreeing to pay the fee range of $300-$500 if your Deal goes live. In order to delight our customers and offer the best products at the best times, Lightning Deals not initially selected for Black Friday or Cyber Monday may be rescheduled to Black Friday & Cyber Monday. The fee amount charged will be based on the day your Lightning Deal actually ran and not the day it was initially scheduled. If you’re not satisfied with the scheduled run date, you must cancel the Lightning Deal before it goes live to avoid being charged. Learn more about Deal fees.

7-day Deals: 7-Day Deals selected to run on Black Friday Week or Cyber Monday Week will run for the entire week and on the event day. Sellers with 7-day Deals selected to run will be charged $1000 per deal. 7-Day Deals that are not selected to run on Black Friday Week or Cyber Monday Week will be cancelled by mid-October and will not be charged a fee.

Submission Process

Follow these steps to take advantage of these unique shopping events:

  1. Select products: View eligible products on the Deals Dashboard. Learn how to make your products eligible for Deals if you don’t see any eligible products.
  2. Schedule deal: Select Black Friday week or Cyber Money Week.
  3. Configure deal: Select specific product variations to include in your deal and set your Deal price and quantities.
  4. Review & submit: Review the details of your deal and click “Submit Deal”.

If you are unable to select Black Friday Week or Cyber Monday Week during the Schedule deal step, your product is not eligible for submission. Learn how to create Deals.

After submitting a Deal, follow these best practices to help ensure Deals run successfully:

  • Pricing Edits: Please be aware that after submitting a Deal, any pricing changes to ASINs participating in the Deal may impact the Deal maximum pricing requirements.
  • Close Listings: Do not change the status of any ASIN participating in Lightning Deals to Closed within the Manage Inventory page. Doing so will cancel any Deal currently scheduled for that ASIN or may cause a technical error. Similarly, do not delete any ASINs from your inventory that are participating in upcoming Deals. Cancelled Deals cannot be reactivated.
  • Deal Images: Any images containing text or not following the style guide will be cancelled without notification. Review your listing to ensure it conforms with the Amazon Style Guide and Product image requirements.
  • Creating new child ASINs: For Deals that include variations, avoid creating or assigning new child ASINs to the variation family. Doing so causes the existing Deal to revalidate with the new child ASINs, which can cause the Deal to become suppressed or cancelled.
  • Deal Policies: Please ensure your Seller Account is compliant with our Deal Policies. If your Seller account is not compliant, all deal eligibility will be removed. Deals that are cancelled while running, will not be refunded.

Important notes: You can only submit your Black Friday & Cyber Monday Deals until 11:59pm on September 27th, 2019 (PDT). Submitting a Deal for Black Friday or Cyber Monday does not guarantee that your Deal will run on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. If your Lightning Deal was not selected for Black Friday & Cyber Monday, it will be scheduled during the week of Black Friday & Cyber Monday. Lightning Deals cannot run on the same ASIN within a 7 day period and may be cancelled without notification if they violate this policy. 7-Day Deals that are not selected to run on Black Friday Week or Cyber Monday Week will be cancelled by mid-October and will not be charged a fee.

Black Friday & Cyber Monday Review

Deals submitted for the Black Friday & Cyber Monday Weeks will be reviewed against all other Deals submitted.

  • Amazon will choose the Deals for Black Friday & Cyber Monday that provide the best value to the customers based on a combination of best discounted price and available quantity. The best price and quantity for your Deal may be different from what is suggested on the Deals dashboard.
  • You may submit the same Lightning Deal for both Black Friday and Cyber Monday consideration. However, the same Lightning Deal cannot run on both Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This means that if your Lightning Deal is selected for Black Friday then it will not be eligible to run on Cyber Monday. Similarly, Lightning Deals selected for Cyber Monday will not be eligible to run on Black Friday.
  • You’ll be notified by email if your Deal was selected for Black Friday or Cyber Monday by late September.
  • Deal schedules are subject to change. In order to delight our customers and offer the best products at the best times, Deals may be moved in and out of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

For FBA Sellers: Inbound Inventory

FBA inventory for Black Friday & Cyber Monday Deals must be received at an Amazon Fulfillment Center by November 5th, 2019.

Sincerely,
Amazon Promotions Team

New Amazon Day Promotion – Prime Day Discount 2019

prime day

Prime Day 2019 is officially July 15th and 16th. Leading up to this expect a “Prime Day Week” of promotions from Amazon.

Last year you could submit lightning deals. This year, you can submitting lightning deals as well as a “Prime Day Promotion”

This new year feature is accessed by going to: Advertising / Prime Exclusive Discounts

If you don’t see this feature available on your account, it is likely a permission issue. To fix, go to settings / permissions, and add the appropriate permission as see in this below screen shot.

Step 1 is to enter a name of your discount, nothing special here, it’s just internal naming.

One major call out here – this can stack with other offers. So if you already setup a coupon or lightning deal, you’ll want to avoid stacking these…

Onto step 2. You will download a template, and then upload it.

I found this the template to be a bit tricky. Here’s a screen shot of one I got to successfully take. Please note you need to fill out every single column.

After you upload it you can validate whether it worked. Here’s a screen shot of an arrow pointed to one NOT scheduled. Means you have to work on it more until it looks like the one just below it, and it says “Scheduled”

Because this feature is brand new, we don’t know exactly how it will look to the customer. I recommend everyone selling on Amazon to participate with this.

Below is some direct help files from Seller Central. Should you need help setting a Prime Day Promotion up, contact us at MyAmazonGuy.

Seller Central information:

Prime Exclusive Discount is a price discount available to Prime members. Products with a Prime Exclusive Discount will display strikethrough pricing and a savings message for Prime members in search results, and on the product detail page. Prices adjusted for discounts are displayed on the detail page buy box for Prime members.

On Prime Day, products with Prime Exclusive Discounts will display a Prime Day Deals badge in search results, and on the product detail page.

How to Create an Amazon Giveaway on Seller Central

amazon giveaway

How to Create an Amazon Giveaway on Seller Central

Amazon has released a new giveaway feature under promotions that allows you to giveaway up to 30 units. In addition to 30 units given away, there will be a 30%-40% off promotion for people who enter the giveaway and do not win. The seller will choose how many units for the giveaway and the percentage off promotion. Amazon will handle the target audience, selection of winners, and shipment of prizes. Below is an example scenario of how this giveaway promotion works.

The seller has chosen to give away 10 units for free in addition to anyone else who enters the giveaway to get 40% off. Amazon will select 1 person every 1200 entrants and send them their free unit. You can select how often Amazon will giveaway 1 unit when setting up the giveaway. On one product you could select every 3000 entrants 1 unit is given away while on another product every 1500 entrants 1 unit is given way. This varies for each product and depends on its metrics. People who did not get selected to receive a free product will be given the 40% off promo code.

About 3,000 people will enter the giveaway and 6,000 people will see it. This can help get a few sales in the door and gain exposure on selected products. It is especially useful when wanting to push a product.

In our experience, we recommend starting with giving away 2 units of 2 different SKUs (products). We’ve found that it’s been the right number to start out with. Below is what Amazon’s giveaway page looks like and where your product will show up.

Amazon Giveaways

How to create a giveaway in Seller Central:

There are two parts to setting up a giveaway. First, you’ll need to create a percentage off promotion for the product being given away. After creating the promotion, you’ll need to set up the giveaway and link the promotion to it. I’ll cover each step in granular detail below.

Promotion:

Navigate to promotions by hovering over “Advertising” on the top taskbar and clicking on “Promotions”. Once on the promotion tab, click “Manage Product Selection”.

Now click the “Product Selection Type:” drop-down menu and select “ASIN List”. Then click on “Create Product Selection”.

Here you will list the ASIN in which you are creating the promotion for along with a name and internal description. Submit the product selection and go back to the promotions tab.

Now click on “Create” under “Percentage Off”.

This will take you to the promotion creation page. Under step 1 click on the drop-down for “Purchased Items” and find the product selection you just made.

Now you will need to give the percentage off amount. The max percentage for a giveaway is 40%. However, if this was not a promotion for a giveaway then there is no limit to the percentage amount. When entering the percentage off amount, do not use the “%” sign. Only use numerical values as shown below.

Once you have your conditions set, you’ll need to set a date range and name it. Note this promotion has to be longer than 9 days or you won’t be able to link the promotion to it. You can set the date range by clicking on the start and end dates. Name this promotion under internal description. This name will not be customer facing but a reference for you to remember what the promotion is.

Under additional options, you will set the claim code as a group claim code. You can either limit customers to one redemption per customers or allow them to redeem it more than once. This is done by checking or unchecking the one redemption per customer option. Set the claim code compatibility to unrestricted. This allows the customer to have multiple items in their cart. This will not apply the promotion to other items in the cart. Click review and submit your promotion. The promotion will take 4 hours to go live from the start date.

Giveaway:

Now that the promotion is set up, you’ll need to set up to giveaway and link the promotion to it. Do this by going back to the “Create a Promotion” tab under “Advertising” and click on create under “Giveaway”.

Find the product you are going to giveaway and click on “Set up a giveaway”.  This will take you to the giveaway set up page.

Once on the giveaway set up page, you’ll need to enter the number of units giving away and your seller name. The max amount of units you can give away is 30 units. I recommend starting with a 2-3 unit giveaway.

To maximize exposing your product, select “Lucky Number Instant Win” as the giveaway type and select the lucky number. In this example giveaway, we are given 3 lucky numbers; 400, 500, and 600. You can only choose one. If we select 400 as the lucky number then that means ever 400th entrant 1 unit will be given away. So if we give away 3 units then 1 unit will be given away on the 400th entrant, 800th entrant, and 1,200th entrant.

You can make all entrants watch a video or follow an author on Amazon to before participating in the giveaway. Keep in mind this can limit the number of entrants, to maximize the number of entrants it’s recommended to select no additional steps to enter.

Click “Yes” on the offer discount to entrants option. Here you’ll need to get the promotion ID of the promotion you created previously. The promotion ID can be found by viewing the promotion. Copy over the promotion ID and validate it in the giveaway. This will link your promotion to your giveaway so all entrants get the discount.

Select “Public” as the discoverability and click next the proceed to check out.

Amazon makes you pay for the units you are giving away. If you are giving away 3 units then you’ll pay those 3 units at full price. This will then show up as a sale in your seller central account. Any units that are not given away will be refunded back to you.

Once you complete the check out process, it will take 8 hours for your giveaway to go live and Amazon will send you an email with a link to view your giveaway. You can also click here to view your giveaways. This completes setting up your giveaway!

If you need further assistance you can contact us here.

Difference Between Coupons Promotions Sales & Lightning Deals on Amazon – Prepare for Prime Day

“In this video I discuss the differences between Amazon coupons, promotions, sales pricing, and lightning deals. I also go over Prime Day Deals.”

Amazon promotions vs coupons vs sales (Strikethrough pricing no longer works)

Amazon promotions vs coupons vs sales (Strikethrough pricing no longer works)

There are a few options you have to drive to convert your traffic better using promotional tools. While it’s easier to double your traffic than it is to double your conversion rate, there are times called for that you want to discount. Below are the options available to you.
amazon promotions
  1. Promotions – no cost, but are somewhat hidden and not easy to find. I chose this option because you are driving external traffic and you can simply say, 40% off, just add to cart, no promo code needed. One benefit to this is you can have unique promo codes used for external traffic and track which external source got the sale.image.png
  2. Price reduction/sale – no cost, but no strikethrough, customer can’t tell it’s on sale. We simply reduce price. This does trigger the camelcamelcamel followers, and conversion goes up with a lower price often. But customers don’t really know it’s lowered as compared to when it was higher.
  3. Coupon – Costs 80 cents a click. Very visible, clip to get the coupon. Shows in search results and top of product page. There is no tracking with this tool, you just know number of coupons clipped and used.
If the promotions don’t work, I’d suggest coupon next. Coupons I prefer to use if there’s not external traffic being used. With external traffic, you can educate the consumer and avoid the cost of a coupon.
